The PRINCE OF WALES is Coming - The Aircraft Carrier PRINCE OF WALES is beginning to take shape after work began at the Govan (Glasgow) shipyard of BAE and with half a dozen yards around the UK involved in the carrier project, with some 10,000 people directly or indirectly working building sections, parts or providing equipment, as an engineering project, it’s a national effort second only to the Olympics.
Another giant section of the project is now being completed, Lower Block 04 will weigh more than 11,000 tonnes – roughly one sixth of the total displacement of the new leviathan. The finished section will stand 75ft tall, stretch for 282ft, and will be 131ft wide. It will house the two (2) main engine rooms, a sickbay and accommodation for some of the crew.
