Ship Visiting – At sea in Weymouth Bay HRH The Princess Anne paid a ship visit to the Landing Ship RFA MOUNTS BAY in Weymouth Bay accompanied by her husband Vice-Admiral Timothy Laurence. The Royal Navy Reserve Patrol Ships SMITER and TRACKER were also in attendance. The Secretary of State for Defence was also out and about off Weymouth visiting the Royal Navy Flagship, the Assault Ship BULWARK at sea during the ship’s operational duties as the afloat Command And Control Headquarters in support of the maritime policing and security mission at the Olympic Sailing venue. Escorted by Commander Maritime Operations, (a Rear Admiral) the Defence Secretary joined the Flagship by way of a Landing Craft Utility of 4 Assault Squadron RM accompanied by the Chief Constable of Dorset Police. The Maritime Forces stationed off the Dorset coast are providing a safe and secure field of play (at sea !) for the Olympic sailors throughout the London 2012 Games period.
The Deputy Fleet Commander, (a Vice Admiral) paid a visit to the fifth Type 45 Destroyer DEFENDER and became the first Flag Officer to step onboard the Navy’s newest Warship under the White Ensign.
