DAUNTLESS at the Cape – The Type 45 Destroyer DAUNTLESS – the current mainstay of Atlantic Patrol (South) paid a first visit to South Africa, and ended what had become a three month African odyssey.   The DAUNTLESS became the first Type 45 to visit Cape Town, and spent three weeks at the Cape, and allowed a break for many, but not for the engineers who took the opportunity to complete some minor maintenance.   The embarked 815 Squadron LYNX H.M.8. Flight to decamp to Ysterplaat, (pronounced ace-ter-plart) Airbase, as the South Africans also operate to type of helicopter.

The Type 45 having reached Cape Town is roughly at the half way point in the inaugural deployment and has already visited Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Ghana, as well as Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Angola.   The DAUNTLESS now faces the lumpy weather in the South Atlantic, where it iss now mid-winter.
