Ship Parade at National Armed Forces Day Celebrations – the Type 23 Frigates ARGYLL and MONMOUTH, with the Landing Ship RFA MOUNTS BAY and the Coastal Patrol Vessel RAIDER were in attendance at Plymouth to pay tribute and show their support for the military at the National Armed Forces Day event.   Both the Prime Minister (David Cameron), and the Earl of Wessex (H.R.H. the Prince Edward)were present as was the First Sea Lord (Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope) and other the dignitaries.    There was much saluting both ashore by a gun from 29 Regiment RA, (the Army’s commando gunners) and all were treated to air displays from an RAF TYPHOON.

As part of National Armed Forces Week, Plymouth’s Royal Naval Reserve unit, VIVID opened its doors to the public being the home to over 130 reservists who volunteer their spare time to support UK operations both at home and overseas, in roles as diverse as supporting anti-piracy operations or working as part of the Fleet Diving Squadron.
