LUSTY Families Day - The Nation’s high readiness Helicopter Carrier, ILLUSTRIOUS swapped helicopters and Royal Marines Commandos for family members as they enjoyed a families’ day at sea.   ILLUSTRIOUS hosted just over 800 family members, providing an opportunity for them to gain an insight into life on board a Royal Navy warship at sea.   With the weather remaining fair, families spent most of the day on the Ship’s flight deck.    The day included sailing south of the Isle of Wight; with flying demonstrations from Fleet Air Arm LYNX H.M.8. and SEA KING H.C.4. helicopters, plus fire fighting demonstrations.    As the Nation’s high readiness Helicopter Carrier, ILLUSTRIOUS is starting to prepare for the “Flagship” deployment of the year, COUGAR 12 to the Mediterranean in October (2012) ..
