43 RM Commando Established – The is the new name for the Royal Marine unit formerly known as the Force Protection Group and is now under the command of 3 Commando Brigade RM and becomes the second Royal Marines unit based in Scotland, and the largest in the UK, with 790 men.    The new unit remains based at HM Naval Base Clyde The last unit to hold the badge was disbanded in the aftermath of the Second World War after fighting with distinction in the Mediterranean, Italy and the Adriatic.
