January 2012

KENT Returns to Service – the Type 23 Frigate KENT returned to Portsmouth following a year long, £24m refit at Rosyth.   Apart from the usual overhaul, a new 4.5-inch (114mm) medium range gun was fitted plus new 30mm close-range guns on her port and starboard sides.   A new command system, target control radars and new towed array sonar also were installed and the ship is claimed to be now the world’s leading anti-submarine warfare platform.  KENT will formally rejoin the fleet after undertaking further sea trials.
