It Will Be Alright On The Night – was a well know comedy show on television and seems to have been emulated by the Coalition Government as it is all change again on the choice of Carrier aircraft.   The National Security Council, chaired by Prime Minister has approved the decision to revert back to selecting the F-35B joint strike fighter for the UK's aircraft carriers, it has been reported.    The Daily Telegraph claimed that the National Security Council has accepted the Defence Secretary's recommendation that the Government reverse its October 2010 decision to opt for the catapult launched F-35C.     We await a statement to Parliament announcing the decision.

Opting for the short take-off and vertical landing variant of the joint strike fighter, the F-35B, would mean the Ministry of Defence would not have to convert the Aircraft Carriers to use the expensive Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (estimates range from £800m to £1.8bn per carrier), but the unit cost of each individual aircraft is expected to be higher.   The final number of aircraft to be ordered is not set to be decided until the next defence review in 2015.
