European Union Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia – Operation Atalanta – it may come as a surprise to learn that a non NATO naval formation is being run from a British command post and to some that is a European Union Naval Force and even bigger surprise!   At a recent change of command ceremony a French Admiral (Rear Admiral Eric Dupont) handed over the role of Deputy Operation Commander to a German Admiral (Rear Admiral Jean Martens).     The handover took place at the Operation Headquarters in Northwood, London.
