YORK To Go Soon – The Type 42 Destroyer YORK is due to commission at the end of September 2012 having first commissioned in August 1985.    The YORK will be the penultimate Type 42 to leave service with only the EDINBURGH remaining.    The YORK has recently completed FRUKUS (France-Russia-UK-US) exercises in the Baltic and then visited both St Petersburg (Russia) and Tallin (Estonia). Among the final duties of the YORK are an appearance at the Bournemouth Air Show, and visits to Brest (France) and Hull (the nearest major port to York itself) before returning to Portsmouth for the last time and subsequent the decommissioning.
